Best to your parents

Best to your parents

Best to your parents

Surat Al-Isra (17)

And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], “uff,” and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. {23}

Assalamu’alaikum, Muslim readers..

In this beautiful ayah, Allah subhanahu wata’ala say that first we worship to Him only. After that, we must give our BEST  of kindness, BEST of merciful, BEST of compassion, to our parents (even your parents are non-Muslims or even your parents aren’t often kind to you). Subhanallah! We also can never say to our parents “uff” (which is a expression for frustration) whether they’re fair or not, whether they’re courteous or not. In the next post, it will be the next ayah where we can make dua to our parents.

Here is another ayah where we must care for our parents, and mother (أُمُّهُ) is especially mentioned because she carried us and she gave birth to us. These actions show pain that she’s going through and this is a sign that she already contributed to us. That’s why mother here mentioned by umm (أم) which is higher term than waalidah (والدة). Then we must be grateful to Allah first and then to our parents.

Surat Luqman (31)

And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination. {14}

Here we go one more ayah where we should give our BEST to our parents, and again, mother is especially mentioned.

Surat Al-Ahqaf (46)

And We have enjoined on man doing of good to his parents; with trouble did his mother bear him and with trouble did she bring him forth; … {15}
